MANILA, Philippines – ‘Bagyong Jolina’ (international name: Conson) maintains strength while moving northwestward away from the landmass of Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am update on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

‘Bagyong Jolina’ has maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 115 km/h, and central pressure of 998 hPa. It is moving Northwestward 25 km/h.
TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNALS IN EFFECT
TCWS No. 1 (Strong winds prevailing or expected within 36 hours)
LUZON
- The western portion of Pangasinan (Anda, Bolinao, Infanta, Aguilar, Sual, Labrador, Dasol, Bugallon, Burgos, Mabini, Agno, City of Alaminos, Bani, Lingayen, Mangatarem)
- the northern portion of Zambales (San Antonio, Botolan, San Narciso, San Felipe, Cabangan, Palauig, Iba, Masinloc, Candelaria, Santa Cruz)
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 in other areas is hereby lifted.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
On the forecast track, ‘Jolina’ will move generally northwestward today over the West Philippine Sea and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon or tonight.
Outside the PAR, the storm is forecast to move generally westward towards the vicinity of Vietnam or southern China.
It is forecast to re-intensify and reach severe tropical storm category today. Furthermore, the storm may reach typhoon category tomorrow.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
Heavy Rainfall
In the next 24 hours, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may be experienced over Zambales, Bataan, and Pangasinan.
Under these conditions, isolated to widely scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are still possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps.
Severe Winds
Strong winds (strong breeze to near gale conditions) with occasional gusts will continue within any of the areas where TCWS No. 1 is in effect. This may result to up to very light damage to structures and vegetation.
All wind signals presently hoisted will likely be lifted within the day.
HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
In the next 24 hours, Tropical Storm ‘Jolina’ will bring moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 4.0 m) over the western seaboard of Luzon. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts over these waters. Mariners without the proper experience should immediately seek safe harbor.
TROPICAL CYCLONES
‘Jolina’, the 10th tropical cyclone for 2021, developed into Tropical Depression on Monday, September 6.
PAGASA predicts that 2–3 tropical cyclones may enter/develop in the PAR this month.
On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.
The weather agency declared the onset of the rainy season on Friday, June 5.
